This was the highlight of my month so far for sure! I have been a Cheap Trick fan for years now. The way these guys put together their brand of melodic rock and work with other writers from time to time inspires me as a musician. They continue to ooh and awe their fans and new audiences with one of the best, most recognizable voices of all time in Robin Zander and the bombastic, signature guitar sounds of Rick Nielsen! How could I not mention one of the tightest rhythm sections of all time! Tom Petersson’s raunchy punch of a 12 string bass melodically weaving lines all over Bun E. Carlos and his straight 4 on the floor beat beat beat beat!

Cheap Trick is currently touring with Aerosmith on their Global Warming tour landing in Atlanta on July 26 at Philips Arena!

Rick Nielsen has a deep history in rock music from his early days playing in bands and working in his Father’s music store in  Rockford, Illinois to touring Europe with Tom Petersson in Sick Man of Europe.  Few people know that Nielsen was actually the keyboard player/ second guitarist in Fuse, the band that eventually morphed into Cheap Trick. He didn’t become “the official guitar player” until Cheap Trick came together.

Listen to my interview with Rick earlier today as we touched on the tour, his son Daxx who is now the touring drummer for Cheap Trick, and Rick recording with John Lennon on the Double Fantasy album . . .

Rick Nielsen and the Board of the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois, unveiled plans for Rick’s Picks, a state-of-the-art exhibit that tells the story of Rick’s passions for guitars, music and Rock & Roll. Visitors will experience a treasure trove of Rick’s amazing guitars (as well as a selection of his famous friends’ instruments), collectible personal items, stage clothing and Cheap Trick memorabilia, all enhanced by multimedia storytelling support. The exhibit is set to open August 11, 2012. Check it out here.
