Josh Rifkind and 500 Songs for Kids!
SONGS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION brings musicians year round to children’s hospitals and special needs kids camps. They integrate musicians into the lives of these kids in need, and the effect has been profound. We are proud and excited to announce that the biggest music charity event in Georgia history is back!
500 SONGS FOR KIDS kicks off May 3, 2012, at Smith’s Olde Bar, where once again 500 DIFFERENT ARTISTS will hit the stage over 10 consecutive nights to benefit Songs For Kids Foundation.
This years theme is: THE 500 MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS OF ALL TIME!
The Backstage Beat spoke with Josh on the phone and got a little more information on what this event actually is.
This will be the sixth year that Josh has headed up a great lineup of 500 songs and 500 bands all over 10 days.
He told us it is a lot of work but it is in his heart and it is all well worth it. The charity event itself goes to benefit his organization that brings music and musicians to children in hospitals in Georgia and California. When you attend one of the nights of music, your cover charge as well as any donations you would like to give go to bringing this music therapy to children around your city.
Josh always has a few things up his sleeve and lets us know that this year is no different. There will be some surprise guests, there will be some big names, there will be great music and yes, it will be fun!
Josh spends his time with his great team planning on meticulously going through and making the list of songs every year. This year will bring us the 500 Most beautiful songs and he assured me that he takes it seriously. “For a guy with no girlfriend, its pretty easy for me to spend hours working on the list to get it perfect.” Hear that one ladies?
Josh also talked about why he chose Smiths Olde Bar for the venue saying, “Smiths has always been good to me. I played there years ago with my bands and it seemed like a good fit. I love the vibe, the room is great, the sound is great. I am a very loyal person and wanted to stick with Smiths as they have been good to me. It gets better every year.”
In the past, Josh has had names like Cee Lo Green, Cracker, Zac Brown Band, Janelle Monae, Manchester Orchestra and Mute Math. This year will be no different. Josh did not want to spoil the surprise or jinx it, so we will all have to get out and support this event to see the amazing lineup planned.
What we love about 500 Songs for Kids is that there is nowhere in Atlanta that you can go on any night of the week, stay for a few hours and experience so many different bands, genres of music and style. It is mind blowing and knowing it is for charity makes it even more amazing.
Join us as 500 Songs for Kids kicks of tomorrow, Thursday May 3rd and runs the May 10th. On Sunday May 6th, The Backstage Beat will be out to celebrate our own Rob Alex’s birthday as he plays “Drown” by Son Volt right off the list of 500 most beautiful songs. Join us~
Come meet Josh and see the man behind this generous effort. Well done Josh!
