Atlanta Symphony Associates – 2012 Decorators’ Show House and Gardens- Knollwood Estate
The Atlanta Symphony Associates 2012 Decorators’ Show House & Gardens is open and runs from April 21 through May 13, 2012.
This is a rare chance to walk into the grand Phillip Trammel Shutze’s 1929 Historical Home and experience the creativity that the assembled designers have created.
The proceeds benefit the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and its Education and Community Engagement Programs. The Knollwood Estate, a 1929 English Georgian-style home designed by Atlanta’s famed architect Phillip Trammel Shutze is located across the street from the Governor’s mansion.
The house is a living masterpiece, and I only captured some of the highlights of the space. This is certainly an experience for anyone who wants to garner ideas and appreciate the simplicity and beauty of a living home.
As you walk into the grand entrance you view the vintage Steinway piano, with an elegant member of the ostrich family ready to great you. The detail of each room is remarkable where the color and texture center on themes of glamour with comfort.
The solarium by Oetgen Design has been changed into a grand party room, even adorned by a party hat in the corner. The glass view showcases the swimming pool, and the windows bring in natural light for an open space.
The library by Essay & Murphy have a light earth tone that captures the bit of natural light that flows in, with bookshelves filled with books, as well as family art and artifacts.
The art throughout the house captures both contemporary and classical pieces, with an iconography that captures the American style.
One of my favorite features was the Gentlemen’s Dressing & Bathroom, where the shower has a rain shower head with a glass wall walk in shower. A hidden television can be viewed through the glass, and a speaker overhead can keep the user up to date with their favorite shows. The wood paneling gives the feel of an old school private men’s club.
On the same floor, sandwiched between the master bedroom is the Lady’s dressing and bathroom. Not to be outdone, it has vintage mirrors and a deep beautiful tub. Note the water closet, where there is a remote control for the heated seats.
Womack Interiors and Design Kitchen and bath studio have transformed the space of the kitchen and family room to capture the high ceilings, and they’ve added two marble tables for lots of open space to prepare the family meal. The side breakfast table makes you want to sit and read the paper while drinking a fresh cup of coffee.
The outside is splendid capturing the oasis of this southern chic home in the heart of Buckhead. Check out this home and help raise funds for a good cause.
